Two Fatal DUI Accidents in East TexasJuly 11, 2014
A pair of fatal DUI accidents occurred within 24 hours in East Texas this week. A single-vehicle accident near Tyler led to the death of a 17-year-old high school student with a blood alcohol level at nearly three times the legal limit. Another accident on Thursday involved a driver going the wrong way on U.S. 259 near Kilgore, leaving a woman in critical condition and her two children with fatal injuries.

Braxton Nuon, a 17-year-old student at Whitehouse High School, had attended a party with several friends and, according to medical reports, became seriously intoxicated. The DUI accident occurred in Smith County, when the young man’s 2007 Chevy Silverado flipped over after he steered into a curve at a speed exceeding the posted 55 mph speed limit. Emergency crews transported Mr. Nuon to a Tyler hospital, where he later died. Authorities revealed that the young man’s BAC at the time of the crash was 0.224, nearly three times higher than the legal limit of 0.08.
DUI Accident Kills Two Children
A DUI accident near Kilgore left two children dead and their mother in critical condition. Shelby Taylor was reportedly traveling southbound in the northbound lane of U.S. 259 when her pickup struck a van. The van’s driver, Ketanbhai Patel, swerved to avoid the truck and suffered minor injuries. His wife, Heena, was listed in critical condition at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview. Their two children, 12-year-old Trish and 5-year-old Ryera, were pronounced dead early Thursday morning. Ms. Taylor and her passenger were treated for minor injuries and released. Ms. Taylor now faces two charges of intoxication manslaughter, with each charge carrying up to ten years in prison.
