School friend runs stop sign and causes brain injury

Our fourteen year-old client was a front seat passenger in a friend’s SUV on the way to a swimming pool in Denton, Texas. The driver, a sixteen year-old, was unfamiliar with the area and following another friend’s car ahead of her. The driver tried to speed through a stop sign to keep up with her friend. She did not check to see if there were other cars coming from the right. As the driver entered the intersection, a pizza delivery car traveling 50 miles per hour slammed into the passenger side of the car, where our client was sitting. The impact was so severe that the SUV rolled over 180 degrees until it came to rest upright. Our client hit his head on the window and the dashboard of the SUV and was diagnosed with a concussion at the emergency room. He continued having headaches, memory problems, and loss of coordination, and was treated at Texas Children’s Hospital for his concussion which was a mild traumatic brain injury.
Our Dallas car wreck attorneys filed a lawsuit against the sixteen year-old driver and her mother for entrusting a vehicle to her daughter, who proved to be an incompetent driver. After years of litigation, our injury attorneys were able to reach a settlement for our client right before his eighteenth birthday.
