North Texas Charter Bus Wreck Kills 2 and Injures 41

On April 11, 2013, at least two people were killed and 41 others injured in a charter bus crash in Irving, Texas. Reportedly, the bus crashed on northbound State Highway 161 near the N. Belt Line Road exit, Department of Public Safety troopers say. According to DPS, many good Samaritans responded to the scene to help before emergency crews arrived. Witnesses say the bus was overturned.
According to reports, the bus was traveling northbound on SH 161 when it veered off the right side of the road. It drove over the concrete divots lining the shoulder, causing the driver to lose control. Sources say the bus then traveled back over the northbound lanes and careened into a grassy area, hitting the concrete barrier that divides the northbound and southbound portions of the highway. According to reports, authorities are unclear as to why the driver lost control. Authorities shut down the north and south bound lanes of 161.
