According to an article featured by Reuters, a jury in New Jersey has ordered Johnson & Johnson to pay $7.76 million in punitive damages to a nurse who suffered harm from the companies “Prolift” vaginal mesh. Johnson & Johnson has already said it plans to “vigorously” appeal the award of the jury. The jury also awarded the woman $3.35 million in other compensation, after it found that the company failed to adequately warn her doctors of potential dangers from the vaginal mesh implant made by Johnson & Johnson’s subsidiary.
The trial was the first in a multitude of trans vaginal mesh cases which the New Jersey courts are slated to hear.
