Help Investigators & Victims If You Have Information About the Galveston Golf Cart Crash and the events leading up to this tragedy.

Four people died, with two others fighting to survive critical injuries, following a multi-vehicle crash in Galveston, Texas, on Saturday, August 6, 2022.

The victims, traveling in a golf cart at the time of the wreck, were reportedly hit by a Hyundai Santa Fe SUV that had blown through a stop sign, with an alleged drunk driver at the wheel.

Here’s what we know so far — and why investigators are now asking the public for help.

How the Galveston Golf Cart Accident Occurred

At around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6th, a black Hyundai Santa Fe SUV failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Avenue R and 33rd St. in Galveston. The SUV slammed into a Dodge pickup truck before crashing into the golf cart.

The pickup truck and golf cart were reportedly traveling on 33rd St., going in opposite directions and moving through the intersection, which had no stop sign posted for them.

The four victims who died, as well as the two survivors who suffered horrific injuries, were in the golf cart.

The 45-year-old Hyundai Santa Fe SUV driver  was also taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries, after which he was placed under arrest for alleged drunk driving.

Authorities have not disclosed yet whether they administered a breathalyzer or took a blood sample. They also did not elaborate on his blood alcohol concentration (BAC) at the time of the crash.  His female passenger was not charged.

Currently, the accused drunk driver faces several criminal charges, including four counts of intoxication manslaughter, with the possibility of intoxication assault charges coming soon.

He remains in custody at the Galveston County jail on a $400,000 bond.

Initial Reports Indicate SUV Driver Was Drinking Before Crash

As investigators keep working to gather evidence and talk to witnesses, they are starting to fill in some gaps and create a more complete picture of what happened, including the events that led up to the deadly Galveston golf cart crash.

One crucial point of concern is the SUV driver’s impairment at the time of the crash as he was from out of town and drinking alcohol at Galveston establishments.

According to early reports, witnesses say they saw the SUV driver consuming alcohol at a bar hours before the golf cart crash in Galveston.

While one bar is reportedly cooperating with local authorities, investigators are still looking into whether he consumed alcohol at other establishments too.

Investigations Ongoing & What You Know Could Help the Victims

Several investigations are still underway, with the Galveston Police Department, the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, and others conducting their own inquiries. Authorities are now asking witnesses with any information related to the accident or the SUV driver to share what they know.
