Notable Case Results

Landmark cases and major litigation

Mr. Amaro’s career took a defining turn when, shortly after founding Amaro Law Firm, he was hired to represent victims of the BP refinery explosion in Texas City, one of the worst industrial disasters in U.S. history. In 2010, he represented thousands affected by the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill, including both cleanup workers and small businesses. He was also among the first attorneys to take on claims related to Hurricane Ike, aggressively pursuing justice for homeowners and commercial clients whose lives were upended by storm damage and insurance delays. These high-stakes cases cemented his status as a results-driven litigator willing to take on powerful opponents to secure what his clients deserve.

Education and early career

Mr. Amaro earned his law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School, where he served as Managing Editor of the Wisconsin International Law Journal. As a young law student, he would go on to publish legal scholarship, clerk for federal judges, and write legal opinions. Prior to founding Amaro Law Firm, Mr. Amaro worked for large national defense firms in both Texas and Wisconsin, gaining insider knowledge of how insurance companies operate. His early work as a defense attorney included:
  • Insurance coverage disputes
  • Construction and real estate law
  • Toxic tort and product liability defense
  • Commercial litigation and arbitration
  • Personal injury and wrongful death defense
This background gives him a critical edge: he understands how defense lawyers and insurers think, and he brings this valuable experience to every case.

Personal life and community involvement

Raised in Sugar Land, Texas, Mr. Amaro comes from a hardworking, blue-collar family. His grandfather served in WWII; his relatives labored for decades at the Imperial Sugar Refinery; and he himself worked nights and weekends in high school as a ranch hand, grocery sacker, dishwasher, and car washer. Beyond the courtroom, Mr. Amaro maintains active interests in real estate and technology ventures, providing him with a rare perspective on what makes businesses thrive — and how to protect them legally. True to his motto, “We do great, so we can do good,” Mr. Amaro leads a life dedicated to philanthropy. Alongside his wife Angelica, he co-founded Baseball for Babies, a nationally recognized nonprofit that supports premature infants and their families. He also serves on boards and councils including: The Amaro family supports scholarships for underserved youth and contributes to the schools that helped shape Mr. Amaro’s path. Along with being a dedicated husband and father, Mr. Amaro also participates in his local church, outdoor adventures, and travel. Whether it’s fighting for justice in the courtroom or giving back to the community, Mr. Amaro is dedicated to making a meaningful impact.
James Amaro

It's impossible for me not to continue working on a case until I know everything that happened. This is the passion that we bring to every case we work on.
